I've been looking and reading up on the Navitimers and Montbrilliants. Please correct me if I've got this wrong...

Up until a few years ago the Montbrilliants were considered as a subset of the Navitimers.
It seems that the on the Montbrilliants, when the date aperture is between the 4 and 5, it is indicative of the new in house Breitling movement.
The new Montbrilliants do not have luminescent hands.

What is the difference between the Navitimers and Montbrilliants?

Well there's no such thing as a Montbrilliant, it's Montbrillant after the street the Breitling factory was once on. For all practical purposes there is no difference between the models, just different cosmetic looks. I wouldn't rely on date location for in house vs. ETA, model number or description is more telling and of course every model has its own page here with all the information you need.

For all the reading I did, I was still unsure about the difference between the Navitimer and Montbrillant. The cosmetic explanation makes sense.

Any thoughts on the lack of luminescent hands on the newer Montbrillants?

No lunes on the hands goes for a dressier look imo. Montbrillant is a very nice watch. It's on the small side for today's standards at 40mm while the Navitimer is going to a healthy 43mm in its standard version. Really depends what you are looking for in your watch!

I tend to like the watch on the smaller side, 41-38mm. I think that's why I'm leaning toward the MontBrillant. I like the lunes even though it is a less formal look. Thanks for the info. Any other obvious differences I'm missing?
