Anyone know how often Breitling changes the boxes that come with your watch? I see a lot of different one's on the Bay and wonder if you could year date a watch by the box. Do they change them yearly? Are the boxes different for different models?

I have a general Idea of the timeline of the last 5 box types.. the bakelite box is also different depending on the line of the watch in some years.

I have collected pictures of some boxes but I dont know how useful the information is. When I started the site I was going to provide info on all the boxes and free stuff too, but boxes can be changed... if I own 5 breitlings, I might forget which box goes with which watch, or I might change the boxes.. or I might buy a new box because I lost the one that came with my watch when I go to sell it. I think the factor is much too unreliable to be useful. It would be interesting for some people though I suppose.

I have to think that the factory put certain models or years in the same box. I do see how they could be changed over time and different owners though. Too bad Breitling does not stipulate which box comes with a certain watch in the chronolog. You would think that they would give us a little info. They seem very proud of the bakelite box on the insert in the new Breitling boxes. Not trying to stress out on the box thing, just thought it would be cool to know. Admin, how many diff. box styles have you seen?

The problem is that some AD's don't mark which box came with which model.. so they could get mixed up that way too... if they are in the midst of a box change.

Aside from the really vintage box styles, I've seen the Blue leatherette ones... then the Yellow Leatherette ones with the white interior and white outer box.. these are both from 80's early 90's... before Bakelite came into the picture.

Then there was the first bakelite ones... the ones iwht the burgundy spotting on them:
http://thaiartdecor.velocall.com/image/ ... 0466_0.jpg

those came in an outerbox with all sorts of stars and jets on it or something... those were like mid 90's i think.. then they went on to the black bakelite.. with the Yellow writing "Breitling" on it.. and these had the 2 different types of outer box.. they were both the same looking, black and yellow, but the earlier box when u pulled the lid off the box unfolds open, the later one is a real box with room for the papers on the side.. the earlier one u have to put papers on the top or bottom.

Then they had the Yellow and silver box that you see so much of these came out around the same time as the Brand-wide Chronometer change occured.. and the inner box has 2 types.. one with metal applied letters "Breitling" and one with silver embossed Breitling Logo.. i'm not sure how these were divided, but i think the applied letters were newer, but it might depend on the price of the model as well.. maybe Thomas can tell you more about that.

Then next comes the current box. And that's all i know :)

Speaking of boxes, I have been to a few ADs recently and saw that some boxes come with a little black travel case, they were only with Navitimers and a Montbrillant Olympus. Is this a coincidence or is this the new box for all Lings? I think its pretty cool.... Maybe one day we can all be like Admin and have a collection of boxes (more importantly the Lings!!)

I am wondering the same thing. I just bought my first Breitling; a super ocean steelfish off of a private seller on eBay. Some listings have a box with a small travel case, some don't. I would think that would be very popular, so I don't see how they would ever not offer it after offering it. Unfortunately I didn't get the travel case option, and mine is a newer one because it has the arrow second hand tip and pro 2 strap. Maybe they changed boxes in the middle of the latest generation after a few years before the end of the steelfish?

I sure hope it isn't fake.

The original thread is 10 years old. The travel cases are service boxes that Breitling return your watch in after its been serviced by them.

EDIT: Unless you mean the flip top leather ones that come in the larger box, I think they have been pretty standard issue for quite some time?

I have kept one mint of each of the Bakelite in outers and a couple of the wooden versions (can post images if it helps)

Best (and good to be back (thanks Mods))

I know that you can buy a new box from Breitling for ~40€ but it is the "modern" box...

From experience, they went from Bakelite box in 2012 to cheap cardboard box with good travel pouch in 2013.
