Hey everybody,

I recently bought a used Super Avenger with a black face. I bought a white dial to do a swap. I took the watch apart just fine and left everything to be reassembled the next day. My girlfriend (grrrrr) took a little piece of wax paper I had the hands in and threw it away. She threw away the entire hand set!

I've been having a hell of a time trying to locate a set of them. It seems near impossible. The serial number is scratched off on it and the Tourneau Store in Las Vegas said they wouldn't even touch it. I have no problem putting it back together myself, in fact I would prefer it, but it's IMPOSSIBLE to find a complete handset! Breitling will not sell you parts like that but there are plenty of watch findings suppliers who will have a close similar pattern part!

My advice would be to pack it all up and send to breitling saying an un-named watchmaker butchered it, can they restore it for you!



Don't think I'd ever attempt to try anything that ambitious (daft )

I don't know where you are located but if you are in the US you can call this number below and ask for Roy. He is the guy that has been servicing my Lings for the past 5 years. It may take a bit of time for him to get the parts you need but I'm quite sure that if you explain the situation to him he will be able to help you. I brought him a 1991 Astromat Longitude about 4 years ago that needed new hands and a crystal and he was able to get the parts and restore the watch to NEW condition. He also got me some Gold knobs and a Gold crown for my 2 tone Chronomat that came with stainless ones. His number is below.

I can't help myself. I always have to take things apart and put them back together. It's really not very difficult at all whatsoever, all you need are some tools. I'd be completely in the clear if my neat freak GF hadn't gone messing around on my desk!

Thanks for the tip acceldebt I'm going to try that! Hopefully Roy will be able to help. I'll keep you guys posted.

In my world it is quite unlikely that someone (not professional watchmaker) would completely disassemble a Breitling and then say it's no problem to get it up and running again.

Regarding the number of previous posts - I'd suspect a "forum troll".

Had a similar problem (damaged hands rather than lost) with a Shark a while back & gave up looking for new hands in the end - used the old ones!

However the following may help you source new ones:

eBay ID - "ledid5820montre" or "alan.hadjio"

Or:

www.watchpart.co.uk or http://www.ofrei.com/index.html may be able to source them for you.

I reckoned the hands where the worst/fiddliest part of the rebuild - do you have the special hand removers etc.?

Hehe, I have no idea what a forum troll is, so I suppose I might be one, though I doubt it (perhaps one of you can enlighten me).

I'm not really into watchmaking, but you better believe I spent a lot of time reading up about it. I have a pretty basic set of tools, though comprehensive enough to get the job done. I also practiced with a beater watch before this and it came back together without a hitch. Just read up and took my time. Keep in mind I'm not touching the movement at all. Without knowing any of you I'd be willing to bet that a pretty high percentage of you could do it without any problems.

OK then, maybe not a troll... (A forum troll would be someone who's just throwing in a torch to get everyone upset/amazed/freaked out.)

I think I misunderstood you a little bit - the picture I got in my head was that the movement was also into bits and pieces. I really wish you luck with finding a pair of hands.

I've taken apart watches before but never have removed the hands. After reading Vanessa's statement about how hands can lose their tension and not stay on as tightly as they should after having been removed.. I dont want to test it! I remember many many years ago, I had a Seiko that the hand did fall off of, and I opened it up and stuck it back on with my fingers.. it never came off again after that. I wonder if that would work with my Breitlings
