I agree with you guys. The emergency is a delicat item and i would not open it myself. Thats why i was saying that its an expensive watch to own.

I also agree that amatour service is a battery change and nothing else. And this is what i do only on my watch.

On the other hand i think its really ridiculous to do a full service on a quartz watch every second year (except EM model) or so. I have talked to my Breitling dealer and he said that there should be no problem to change the battery myself in the Airwolf and to send it to breitling maybe every 8-10 yeas to get full service on it.

Regarding gaskets i must add that i always keep in mind to never get the watch wet. Even if i would do a real breitling service i dont take baths with such a expensive watch.

I think its a bit sad that many people think that a quartz watch has something mystic inside and only a magician can open it.

BUT there is a big difference on a regular Quartz and EM model. Thats a fact.

Which watch oil has an operational life of 8 - 10 years?

In theory probably none.

In real life i guess the most. Those who i have asked regarding the oil said that the watch will not be harmed by old oil. Nothing that a service wont fix in worse case.

Synt-a-Lube 9010 / 9020 are the most common (and highest quality) watch oils. They have predictable viscosity loss - I don't have the charts in the office, so will have to check at home, but it's not 8 - 10 years. That's not 'theory', that's real, predictable loss of purpose and is just chemistry.

Modern oils don't gum up the way that old oils did and I agree that old oils won't harm the movement in and of themselves, what will do the damage is the loss of lubrication that results from an old oil that can't do it's job. That's real too, not just theory - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=25662

Still, it's your watch.

Hello,

Perhaps this is the only watch from Breitling to get serviced each 2 years to save your life, because this is is not a "toy" but a real "tool" in order to save life, there is a price for that.
I baught this watch as a "personnal warranty" when I fly in plane.
So getting this Emergency serviced is an evidence (battery, full service, polished...), because it can save my life and also I hope to never use it.
The price for saving life is useless here.

they do a full service and polish the first time, and the battery isnt just under the back like a normal quartz watch, yo uhave to remove the whole thing down to the face to get to it.

Very intressting article. Its a shame they dont talk about quartz wtaches at all. Well 8-10 years is maybe to long. Maybe a real service every 3-4 battery change is more realistic.

There's no difference in the running train of an analogue quartz watch and a mechanical watch. Ignore the LCD because that's just an 'extra', the only practical difference between quartz analogue and a mechanical is battery vs. mainspring and quartz crystal vs. balance.

PM me please for advice if you still need to
It is so easy to do with the right tools 10 MIN MAX and I'm a cretin!
It's wrong to suggest Breitling won't touch a watch without full service history which is basically what you are looking at mostly if you buy second hand?
They will service a watch with unknown background with certain caveats.

Can you show us your tool?
The question is how you have close the watch? Whit a press? And if yes, what kind of press?

I bought a basic case back press
However it isn't really needed to be honest because the four case screws seal it anyway
What you do need is a decent pop back case opener .There are loads on e bay for around £40
This is used for the watch battery replacement. The watch back opens fine, just 4 screws (for the beacon batterys only ), but behind this is another sealed case which is where the watch battery is located .This is where the opener comes in .
Best to look at the video on Youtube but ignore the cold chisel bit.............................. or pm me
Done at your own risk obviously....................
ps
It is without a doubt preferable to send to Breitling but if you own a few and THEY ONLY NEED A BATTERY CHANGE (ie they don't need polishing /damage repair)
well £750 x 5 every two years.............
