I've noticed that in a couple of posts, people say their watch is +3 seconds or +5 sec etc. How are they measuring the accuracy of their watch? Is there a procedure in how to do this? I am curious if my watches are accurate or not.

Its simply how many seconds the watch gains or loses over a 24 hour period...easily timed against an on-line clock for instance.
If the watches accuracy is outside of the accepted limits, it may need adjustment etc.

If I am checking the accuracy of my watches I firstly set them exactly to a source I know to be accurate - like the atomic clock!

Then I simply check my watch against it at the same time each day for a few days. This is a pretty easy way to get an idea of gains or losses per day.

I used time.gov to set mine. I've had my Steelfish for a couple weeks now and I'm running about 25 seconds faster than what the website time says. Should I be concerned about that? I hate to send it back when I've only had it a short time.

Also - when someone says it is running +5 seconds per day - do you interpret that so that by the end of the week you've gained 35 seconds?

Yes. The +/- are per day, so your (deviation * duration) calculation is correct.

If your watch is a cummulative 25 seconds off after 14 days, it is marvelously accurate. No need to take it back, just enjoy the heck out of it.

I left side two of my winder off for a couple of days and noticed my Submariner was not working. I set the time on my Submariner via my Navi-World and compared the time with www.time.gov . I was amazed, because I usually adjust my time at the begining of each month (especially if the month has only 30 days) and my Navi-World was only 14 seconds fast compared to the website yesterday.

Amazing mechanical workmanship.
