Hi all, I'm expecting my cloths tomorrow and just had a couple of questions before I start with them.

I'm assuming it's best to avoid 'polishing' the crystal?

Is it ok to polish the bezel etc? I think I'll most likely just attempt the bracelet and clasp but it's best to know these things!

Cheers
Dan

Do not rub across the crystal. It will remove the AR coating.

Bezels are fine as long as they aren't painted. The cloths have mineral spirits, and that will remove paint!

thanks 4 the advice. 2 more questions though,

1) , can i leave the bracelet on the watch or do i have to remove it(dont really know how to, lol)

2) should i run the cloth everywhere on the watch(skyland) except for the crystal

the reason im asking is bc the bezel on skyland is polished but not as much as the bracelt obviously, so what do i do...

thanks guys

DO NOT use the cape cod cloths on anything brushed unless you want it to be polished. And it doesnt take very long.... I have a Citizen eco drive watch and it HAD a brushed clasp on the bracelet ...until I polished it to a mirror finish in about 15 minutes with my cape cod cloth!.. Looks ok though, becuase it hase a combe brushed polished bracelet.

Seriously the cloths are fantastic and work really well.

Cloths just arrived and I spent five minutes going over the clasp. The difference is astonishing. Going to wait until I'm at home and have some better products to wash off the polish before I do any more but, couldn't be happier.

The cloth I used though is filthy, I assume you can't wash them because you'll wash the polish out?

I ordered 2 packs of cloths last week from ebay and should be arriving any day now. Now what is the best way to tell if my watch is brushed or polished. I couldn't live with myself if I started to polish out my watch when I shouldn't have. Here is a picture

Don't worry about the cloth getting dirty - it will still have plenty of polishing power for a while to come (provided you keep it in an airtight container of course).

Whatever you do don't wash it or else (as you quite rightly said) you will wash the polish out. The dirtiness is all part of the process!

Note sure as I don't use mine that regularly. I only use them if my watches get bad scratches.

I personally wouldn't fancy using them as often once a month though. They are exceptionally good, BUT they actually a lot more abrasive than you might think. Too much use and you could end up taking too much metal off over time, especially on the sharp edges of the case or bracelet for example. Obviously you aren't going to be able to polish your watch away to nothing in your lifetime(!), but I'd still go easy with them.

Keep used cloths in a Ziplock type bag. Squeeze all of the remaining air out of the bag before sealing. If the cloth starts to dry out, add a little mineral spirits to the cloth and this will keep it "charged".

The info and pics are great, just ordered a new one and would love to keep it looking like new.

Two questions -

My bracelet is two tone, rolled gold - does this remove the gold? Since I plan on keeping this, I do not want to have it look like my fake Tag with gold plating!!

Will this work good on 18k - my Bucherer - without any damage?

The rolled gold bracelet decision kept me awake. SS probably woudl've been a better decision, but love two tone look with my other gold jewelry. I will wear everyday and am concerned about it appearance in years to come. This is why I wanted a Rolex, solid, but just don't like them.

For polishing a two tone bracelet, it's pretty much the same deal as if the bracelet is a polish/brush combo. As the gold is rolled on to SS, you will eventually remove the gold. For polishing the SS bits of the bracelet, you either disassemble it (ie remove/separate ALL the links)or you have to polish it in sequences, being very careful to mask the gold with adequate masking tape.

The Cape Cods should work well also on 18K, but remember you're removing substance from the bracelet. I believe there's a note in the can with advice for precious metals if/how to use the Cods, but as I am at work I can't verify this right now.

peter2621,

After you use these cloths your watch will be very OILY. For bracelets you need to use a toothbrush with dish soap or shampoo to get all the oil and residue off and then rinse it off. It's the only way to completely remove all of the residue from in between the links. The easiest place to get the Cape Cod cloths is on Amazon.com Whatever surface you polish will need to be washed with soap and water and rinsed thoroughly.

Agreed....Failure to remove it all will leave you with a black wrist.

FYI, I just ordered a Starliner two tone for my wife and ask my AD if the gold was solid or plated and she said "solid gold". "Breitling doesnt plate on their gold anymore, with the exception of possibly the crown." That is nice to know and makes the cost of the watch a little easier to swallow for a non-automatic. If also makes it easier to polish later with the cape cod cloths.
