If it was truly only one black diver, then it has to be the SubC. By far the most comfortable watch you'll ever own.

As long as you do not have a nickel allergy.

Does the no-date Sub fit exactly the same?

Same thing.

It'd be the SeaDweller for me, just to add to the mix...

I'm new to Rolex but the SeaDweller looks to me to be a beefed up Sub with a 44mm case. Am I missing something? Happy New Year!

That's the SeaDweller DeepSea. The SeaDweller is 40

The easy glide clasp on the Sub makes it worth it. I love my other watches, but if I had to go down to 1, it would be the Sub.

The Seadweller is nice but I was never a fan of the matte dial.

Exactly.

The SeaDweller is a bit thicker and adds a bit of heft (but nothing like the DeepSea). But the reason many who liked the pre-ceramic Subs like the SD is that it doesn't have the enlarged lugs of the SubC, which for a lot of people spoiled the classic proportions of the 14060.

I'm definitely leaning towards the SubC (no date). My son was born in 2015 so I'm considering looking for a model from that year so when he gets it...eventually...it'll be a birth year Rolex.

Rolex's ceramic bezels are certainly nice...including on the Daytona (though not a diver and in the Blancpain FF price range)...

Here's a nice visual of the watches in considering...a bit deceptive on the case sizes, I know, and the Daytona's not a diver.

Can anyone speak to how well Blancpain's hold their value over time?

I'd consider the Bathyscape model if you're looking at Blancpain as well.

Preowned Bathyscape

Blancpain hold their value reasonably well, but not in the way a Rolex does. Then again, very few watches do!

But to be honest, IMO future value should really be incidental when choosing a new watch. I always advocate buying the watch you like the most irrespective on any other consideration, because that way you will probably never want to sell it anyway! If you buy your "second favourite" on account of it having a better residual value, you'll always still be hankering for your "first choice", and so selling it will basically become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

IMO luxury watches are always best bought as a "heart over head" kind of purchase. (Within reason of course).
