Use with a Dremel tool and it will look even better!

What kind of attachment do you use to polish with a dremel? Maybe I mean to say how do you attach the cloth to the dremel?

I use a Cape Cod Cloth and then will use a polishing wheel to buff out the area. I bought a kit at my local hardware store that had several polishing tips, and a it came with a Dremel metal polish for the deeper scratches. I use it about once per month, or if I notice a small scratch. After using it, my pieces look new. You can't even see the swirls or light scratches any longer.

The kit was under $20. I'll try to find a number off of the kit, or take a photo for you.

May be a dumb question - do you use the Cape Cod cloths on all watch bands - brushed and polished? Or just polished?

Polished only.

So what if I have a brushed and polished bracelet like a Pro 1??? The cloth wouldn't hurt the brushed part would it?

I would maybe think that a dremel could possibly polish out the brushed sections though.

Sounds like a job for both the cloths and a fiberglass pen! Don't use the cod's on that brushed metal.

That looks amazing, Receiving my first Breitling tomorrow (second hand) and hopefully my cape cod cloths will come as well. Do you have any tips for the technique you used? How long did it take?

Cheers
Dan

DannyT,

Congrats on your first Breitling, I'm sure you'll love it. And a second-hand B still counts as "new" around here. The more the merrier!

As for my polishing "technique", I guess it was pretty low-tech. I was just goofing around on a Saturday morning. I didn't expect much. I took the bracelet off the watch and then spent about 20 minutes rubbing the bracelet with the cloth. I didn't touch the case of the watch as it really showed no signs of wear that soap and water wouldn't cure. After you're done polishing you will have to rinse the watch/bracelet under some water. The cloth can be reused apparently. I actually just threw it away, but now I know.

It sounds like some other guys/gals have had success using a Dremel and a cloth wheel. If you go that route, I would recommend using the lowest speed (if that's a choice) and making sure not to keep the wheel in one place too long to prevent over-heating.

Good luck, and be sure to post some pics when it arrives.

thanks MoreCowbell, advice much appreciated!

Just waiting to receive it now :) drinking wine so I can sleep tonight lol.

Am a little worried that the bracelet, which I believe is a Pro 1 has a brushed finish on the centre links. If so I'll just take more time to polish the other parts.

Either way, I don't remember being so excited ever before

edited to remove the kiss :suicide: was talking to my wife as I was posting and well, you know :)

Hi all, I'm expecting my cloths tomorrow and just had a couple of questions before I start with them.

I'm assuming it's best to avoid 'polishing' the crystal?

Is it ok to polish the bezel etc? I think I'll most likely just attempt the bracelet and clasp but it's best to know these things!

Cheers
Dan

DannyT,

A few days ago I had to remove some scratches on my Super Avenger on the ring just inside the bezel. It took some very hard rubbing with the Cape Cods and there was no way to do it without ALSO making contact with the crystal. I got the scratches out without it having any effect on the crystal at all. So the bottom line is don't worry about the crystal, the Cape Cods won't hurt it.

peter2621,

After you use these cloths your watch will be very OILY. For bracelets you need to use a toothbrush with dish soap or shampoo to get all the oil and residue off and then rinse it off. It's the only way to completely remove all of the residue from in between the links. The easiest place to get the Cape Cod cloths is on Amazon.com Whatever surface you polish will need to be washed with soap and water and rinsed thoroughly.
