I've seen a few of these, not sure whether they have any significance or whether it was just a variation on the watch theme.

The Sputnik look is (I suspect) nothing more than acknowledgement of the excitement that people felt about all things space in the late 50s / early 60s.

From the full page magazine ad I have. "To commemorate the first spectacular sallies into unknown space, Breitling/Geneva has just launched its first Baby Moon - a souvenir desk watch - in tribute to the International Geophysical Year. (17 jewels, height 4 inches.)

I've got it framed where I can't look at it but I think it's from around 1959-1960.

That makes sense, the International Geophysical Year was July 1st 1957 - December 31st 1958.

Hey All.....couple of quick points on the Breitling Sputnik Desk Clock: On the Face of the clock is Breitling, then under that:Geneva and under that: Swiss
on the bottom of the base is engraved: 6682
Thanks for any help, think I have the history almost down. The value is another thing....pm's from members have ranged from $200 to $3000.00
So thoughts on that would be helpful.

Wow, I would really like to have this but a little too expensive for my taste.

It recently was for sale. 1306 euro's were bid and the reserve was not met. Not sold.
It was made ca.1958, to commemorate the first satelite (russian Sputnik) launched by man.Only a limited number of these clocks were made. The height of the clock is about 4.75 inches. The base is a section of the world.
Sorry, that's all i could find.
